Creating systemic change in coffee by adding value to the fruit

Did you know that coffee plants produce a fruit?! And this incredible fruit usually goes to waste. Introducing a social enterprise on a mission to change that: Ta Da! I Am Grounded.

I Am Grounded is a disruptive health and wellness social enterprise, upcycling the fruit of coffee to make functional plant-based energy snacks.

"The average coffee drinker will consume 11kg of coffee beans per year producing roughly 57kg of coffee fruit waste. With an estimated 3 billion cups of coffee consumed every day, this massive demand results in approximately 20 billion kilos of coffee fruit waste created each year, about 3,300 + Olympic size swimming pools!" I Am Grounded

Through championing eco-innovation, I Am Grounded aims to lessen environmental loading on the planet and further the ‘closed loop’ approach in coffee production.

Started by duo Lachlan Powell and Vanessa Murillo, I Am Grounded is focused on social empowerment and providing economic opportunities for impoverished coffee producing communities.

Every gram of fruit upcycled makes a difference. Since 2019, I Am Grounded have upcycled over 6 tonnes of coffee fruit from Colombia. This has diverted 5.04 Tonnes of Co2!
